5 Tips for Couples Who Hate Having Their Photo Taken.
Let’s be honest: most of us feel about as comfortable in front of a professional camera as we do in a dentist's chair. You want those beautiful, lifelong memories of your wedding day, but the idea of "posing" for two hours makes you want to elope to a remote island.
I get it. In fact, my whole approach to photography is built for people exactly like you. You want the fun, the laughs, and the raw emotion—without the "stand here and tilt your head" awkwardness.
If you’re worried about feeling stiff on your big day, here are five ways we keep things relaxed and authentic:
1. Action Kills Awkwardness
The second you stand still and "smile for the camera," you start wondering what to do with your hands. My secret? Keep moving. Whether it’s a stroll through the Ribble Valley hills or a walk toward the bar, movement creates natural expressions every time.
2. The "Third Guest" Rule
I don’t show up like a director; I show up like a guest with a very nice camera. When you feel like you’re just hanging out with a friend, your shoulders drop, your laugh becomes real, and the "camera-panic" disappears.
3. Forget the Lens
Your job isn't to look at me. Your job is to look at the person you just married, your mates, and your family. If you’re busy having the best day of your life, I’m busy catching the magic. If you ignore me, I’ve done my job perfectly.
4. The 10-Minute Escape
We don’t do gruelling two-hour portrait sessions. We sneak away for 10-15 minutes of "us time." It’s a breather for you to actually talk to each other, and I’ll be back a few yards away capturing the quiet, unscripted moments. I’ll occasionally throw a fun prompt at you if that helps though!
5. A Practice Run (The Adventure Session)
Think of an engagement shoot as a rehearsal—but fun. Whether we’re hiking up Rivington Pike or wandering through Manchester’s Northern Quarter, it’s a chance to see that, actually, having your photo taken doesn't have to hurt.
